Learning to Read

I had the joy of working with a group of kindergartens who were struggling with reading. The opportunity only lasted four weeks and within those four weeks not only did the five-year olds gain a love for reading, they learned the tools needed to read. The steps I took to encourage reading were I started with a journey through the book. This means we go through the book discussing the pictures on the pages. 5 Fun Ways to Learn with Blocks

Blocks are many toddlers favorites so we decided to make up some fun activities to do with blocks. They often get bored with just building and stacking so I incorporated some playful learning. Learning shapes and colors with blocks. I traced each block on the color paper that matched the block color and had my toddlers match the blocks to the shapes and colors on the paper.
