Sight Word Practice

Sight Word Practice
Practicing sight words

My first grader is learning sight words and the teacher sends home four words a week which most times are words that were learned in kindergarten.

I decided to purchase a packet of sight word cards for kindergarten, 1st grade, and 2nd grade.

The cards are kept in a coupon holder and everyday we practice ten words. The words that she knows goes in one compartment, the words that she hesitates with goes in another compartment and are repeated the same day, and the words that she does not know goes in another compartment and are repeated the next day.

This system helps us get through more words and allows us to work longer on words she does not recognize. Everything was bought at the dollar store and her sight words have become a part of our daily homework routine, which has improved her reading tremendously.
